(Art of the Creator through man of knowing and compassion)
Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient art that harmonizes body, mind, emotions and soul. Over 4,000 years old, it was widely known before the birth of Buddha and recorded in the Bible. In Japan, Jin Shin Jyutsu was part of its oral tradition until 721 A.D. when it was incorporated into the Japanese Kojiki (Record of Ancient Things), the first written record of Japan’s oral traditions.
For centuries, the secrets of Jin Shin Jyutsu were passed down orally but over time, the true essence of this art nearly faded into obscurity. It wasn’t until the early 1900’s that Master Jiro Murai rediscovered these ancient treasures.
Master Jiro Murai studied the Kojiki Records of Ancient Matters, which he believed held the story of human ailments. He also received documents from the private library at the Imperial Palace family since he treated the brother of the Emperor. Master Murai travelled to many places in Japan and treated people with specific Projects (diseases) and once he understood a Project he would move on to the next one. He would treat the patient once every month and instructed them to practice Self Help every day to maintain the proper movement of energy.
Master Murai traveled to many Shinto temples throughout Japan, they correspond to the placement of the Safety Energy Locations (SELs) on the body. He also did extensive research on his own body which included fasting for weeks at a time, eating only certain foods. He would observe and document how that process affected the energy flow in his body. It is said that he spend about 10 years studying in libraries reading about 20,000 texts.
After World War 2 the Imperial family gave Master Jiro Murai permission to share and teach Jin Shin Jyutsu to the general population of Japan. He continued to standardize his discoveries of the energy flow in the body through practice, research, documentation and drawings until his final lecture series in 1957.
Master Murai’s two main protégés were Mary Burmeister and Haruki Kato.
In the late 1940’s Mary Burmeister was guided to Master Murai. She studied with him in Japan for a number of years and brought her knowledge to America in the 1950’s. She continued her studies for another 10 years and in the 1960’s she began formally teaching Jin Shin Jyutsu to others.
How does it work?
Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) is a gentle form of acupressure therapy that uses light finger pressure over specific points on the body while fully clothed. JSJ restores the flow of energy, which may be blocked due to illness or pain.
JSJ, or Jin Shin Jyutsu is based on the principle of balancing vital life force energy, similar to other ancient healing systems. In JSJ, the body’s energetic pathways, known as meridians, are central to maintaining health. When these pathways are blocked or imbalanced, it can result in various physical or emotional symptoms. In JSJ there are 26 “Safety Energy Locks”, similar to acupressure points, that are used to address disharmony in the body. By applying gentle finger pressure and holding these points in specific combinations along the body, the energy flow is balanced, and the body’s natural healing abilities are restored to a more harmonious state. This practice helps to release tension, alleviate pain, and promote overall well-being.
What happens during a Jin Shin Jyutsu session?
First your Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner will discuss your health history and health goals with you. Then they will use oriental pulse diagnosis and other assessment tools to understand your specific condition and tailor a treatment plan accordingly. This personalized approach ensures that the JSJ treatment addresses your individual needs effectively.
How many treatments will I need?
The frequency and number of treatments can vary from person to person. Some individuals may experience dramatic relief after just one session. For complex or long-standing chronic conditions, one to two treatments per week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, usually eight to ten visits in total. Your practitioner will discuss an individualized treatment plan with you during your initial visit.
